Developing conflict resolution strategies and building resilient midwifery students: A mixed-methods study

Workplace bullying and violence (WBV) is an issue within the midwifery profession, impacting midwifery students. This research evaluated a bespoke educational workshop designed to develop conflict resolution skills and strengthen resilience among second-year midwifery students in South Australia. Using an explanatory sequential mixed methods design within a pragmatic framework, findings demonstrated students’ knowledge and understanding of WBV improved following the workshop. However, despite gaining practical strategies, students’ confidence in addressing and managing WBV was still developing. Students demonstrated enhanced understanding of resilience and the factors influencing it following the workshop. Triangulation of results identified nine meta-inferences highlighting that WBV is not confined to clinical environments reflecting a broader issue within the midwifery profession.
