This research project is a first step towards the future generation of a nanomedicine platform driven by the identification of GPCRs as tumour specific biomarkers. It can be very well imagined that an array of frequently overexpressed GPCRs – matched to ovarian tumour heterogeneity – will in a first step be implemented as a diagnostic tool. In a second step targeted drug carriers could be selected depending on GPCR expression profiles leading to personalised treatment. In summary, this work highlights the theranostic potential of GPCRs, which could lead to a translational framework, combining diagnostics and receptor biology, with nanotechnology. Future work will contribute to the rapidly expanding field of precision oncology and may improve patient outcomes.
