But not all type of media have become a part of this debate. This doctoral thesis examines for the first time the EU coverage of regional newspapers in Germany. The author conducted 24 interviews with regional editors as well as correspondents and other experts. He also spent one week in a newsroom in order to observe the internal mechanisms of regional EU-reporting. What do the journalists think about the EU? How much do they know about “Brussels” and its institutions? How do they collaborate with the correspondents in Brussels? And what sources do the use for their own stories? The study answers these questions and explains how the European political communication and especially the EU coverage of newspapers can be renewed and improved. It combines methods and findings from different disciplines such as political science, sociology and communication science.","abstract_html":"The question of a European public sphere has been widely discussed during the last ten years.
