While CPAP (continuos positive airway pressure) is the international gold standard for ventilation support, CNEP as well offers a principle to avoid intubation of the infants. In this study, the so-called \"Pulmarca-Box\" was used, where the patient rests in a plexiglass box with the head outside.The results were as follows:1. CNEP reduced the required oxygen >20% in 93% of the prospective and 84% of the retrospective patients.2. CNEP reduced breathing work up to 14% (retrospective) and 21% (prospective).3. tcpCO2 was not reduced by CNEP.4. CNEP had to be terminated due to insufficient compliance in 15% of retrospective and 29% of prospective patients.5. 13% and 21%, respectively, had to be intubated after termination of CNEP.6. There was an increase in apnea frequency. We did not observed an increase of skin lesions or pneumothoraces.7.
