The first system was a fluid film running down a vertical plate. The second system was a sphere made from alginate gel in which an enzymatical driven reaction from 1-butanol and propionic acid towards the ester was performed. Theory of the used advanced features of MRI, q-space imaging (velocimetry) and chemical shift imaging (CSI), are described. Two q-space imaging sequences were employed to investigate the a free falling film and a liquid flow in a rectangular tube. One of these sequences was especially created for the needs on the free falling film. Due to this sequence the necessary measurement time could be reduced by a factor of 1000. The other sequence allowed to observe the motion in the film within a plane. CSI measurements were chosen to follow a esterification reaction within a sphere from alginate gel. In this gel an enzyme (Lipase) was enclosed which is a catalyst to the esterificaion reaction.","abstract_html":"In this work the advanced features of NMR imaging (magnetic resonance imaging, MRI) were used to investigate two different systems.
