Another aim was to establish wether cavity preparation by means of an erbium laser with efficient water cooling is capable of reducing the susceptibility of enamel to deminaralization and thus of achieving a caries-protective effect. The statistical analysis revealed significantly higher dye penetration rates for Er,Cr:YSGG laser-prepared cavities in comparison to conventionally prepared and conditioned fillings.
