In this context it is supposed that - apart from the effect of QM-Systems - leadership behavior is one main factor which might affect the employee’s attitude towards quality. This influence was selected because some authors assumed an important relationship between leadership behavior and operational quality awareness. The current problem can be described as follows: An influence of the leadership-employee-relationship on employee-quality-awareness is assumed, but there are few studies in this field. Until now, no valid measuring instrument is available to acquire the employee-quality-awareness and to describe how it is influenced by leadership. In addition, there is little knowledge as to whether the present consideration of the research subjects in current reference models for quality management systems (e. g. EFQM or DIN ISO 9000) is adequate or insufficient. In this book the influence of the leadership-employee-relationship on quality awareness of employees is investigated in detail. The entire research design is presented. From the theoretical framework, two criteria lists have to be deduced to systematically assess the different contributions to the subject of quality awareness and leadership behavior. The empirical study is supported by questionnaires for quality awareness and leadership. Both questionnaires were completed by more than 500 employees. The empirical study has been carried out in several departments in production and service companies in Germany. Subsequently, statistical tests of the hypothesis are presented. The Canonical Correlation Analysis was used to verify the hypothesis. All computed set correlations indicate at least an average relationship between both variable sets with two significant canonical correlations on the .05-level. This result leads to the conclusion that the effect between operational quality awareness and perceived leadership behavior is meaningful for further investigation and for operative reorganization. The research results deliver information to the operational quality management concerning deficits in the design of the quality management models like ISO 9000 or EFQM. Furthermore, helpful suggestions are presented to strengthen the combination between company and human resource development as well as work organisational contents of quality management systems.","abstract_html":"In the past some authors have referred to the problem of below-average operational quality awareness.
