The results of this study contribute the advancement of a transgingival immediate implantation. We inserted 24 dental implants (with ceramic or metal abutements) into six dogs. In each animal, one-half of the mandibula received calcium phosphate implants with rhBMP-2 (test group) and the other half of the mandibula, calcium phosphate implants without rhBMP-2 (control group). The results showed no statistically significant differences between the groups with and without rhBMP-2. From the 24 implants used in the study, 14 (58,3%) could be included in the final evaluation. In the rhBMP-2 group we measured a defect-depth of 5,72 (SD: 0,48) mm, a gain of bone of about 2,37 (SD: 0,66) mm, a vertical osseointegration of about 2,37 (SD: 0,63) mm, a osseointegration in the reactivated bone of about 66,5 (SD: 20,91) % and a osseointegration of the local bone of about 67,17 (SD: 7,17) %. In the control group, the values were 5,51 (SD: 0,84) mm; 2,25 (SD: 0,67) mm; 2,2 (SD: 0,64) mm; 62,5 (SD: 12,05) % und 70,2 (SD: 40,95) % respectively. Statistically significant differences could not be established for any parameter. In this study, bone reconstruction using rhBMP-2 in transgingival immediate implants led to the incomplete regeneration of the bone defects.
