As known repeated words showed a decreased N400 effect. In the present study a modified reading paradigm with four-word-sentences for elder and younger controls is used. One third of the sentences end with a semantic congruent word as opposed to two third of the sentences with final incongruent words half of which is repeated. It is hypothesized that the N400-effect decreases with repetition of incongruent sentence endings and that this effect has a latency and is even more decreased in elder controls. The second recording should show if the results were reliable. The N400-effect decreased with increase of latency between first and second recording. The group of the elderly didn't distinguish between incongruency and repeated incongruency. It is concluded that the elder decided in the first place about the sentence being incongruent having a bigger semantic and episodic brain in comparison to the younger.","abstract_html":"It is well established that the N400 is related to semantic incongruency and to non-words.
