Mean values and standard deviations were calculated for the amplitudes and the implict times of the sum answers, the concentric rings and quadrants. The following reference values were obtained: Monitor stimulation: amplitude density a-wave 14,23 ± 5,59 nV/deg2, implicit time a-wave 18,25 ± 2,76 ms, amplitude density b-wave 38,88 ± 15,01 nV/deg2, implicit time b-wave 35,13 ± 1,95 ms, scalar product 9,43 ± 3,18 nV/deg2. SLO stimulation: amplitude density a-wave 46,70 ± 16,48 nV/deg2, implicit time a-wave 17,61 ± 3,34 ms, amplitude density b-wave 141,10 ± 39,05 nV/deg2, implicit time b-wave 35,68 ± 2,4 ms, scalar product 43,38 ± 10,79 nV/deg2. On the basis of repeated examinations with monitor stimulation with 10 subjects, coefficients of variation for repeated measurements were calculated. The amplitude density of the b-wave (47,4%) and the scalar products (25,6%) turned out to have clearly higher coefficients than the implicit times of the b-wave (5,5%). Coefficients of variation for repeated measurements of the same eye examined twice on the same day for 10 subjects came to 12%. The comparison of monitor- and SLO-stimulation showed no significant differences in implicit times but significantly higher amplitudes in the SLO-stimulation, which can be explained by the higher luminance intensity in SLO stimulation. The results give evidence that the relatively high interindividual variability and moderate repeatability have to be considered in the assessment of pathological conditions on the base of amplitude depending parameters. In contrast, the consideration of the implicit times and the interocular comparison of the amplitude depending parameters promise good results.","abstract_html":"Purpose of this study was to obtain and analyse reference values in multifocal electroretinography for the University Eye Clinic of Aachen. 61 healthy subjects (age 50,0 ± 20,0) were examined with monitor stimulation and 15 healthy subjects (43,4 ± 20,0) with SLO-stimulation.
