By numerous picture giving procedures one strives since the beginnings of the ophthalmology to regard the eye background with glaucoma patients in order to draw from this conclusions on the condition from retina and papilla to. While the autors already mentioned (ASHWORTH, B., ROSEN, E., 1975 and TSUKAHARA, S., 1978) used the normal fluorescein angiography, the fluorescein angiograms for the available work in this study with a Scanning laser ophthalmoskope and with adapted digital bit map memory system were noted. Using digital image analysis in late phases of the scanning laser video fluorescein (SLO; Rodenstock Inst.,Ottobrunn, Germany) angiograms (1-12 min) the fluorescence of the optic nerve head and the surrounding retina ( ratio of leakage) was measured quantitatively. This can be made by special computer programs within a short time. Due to our investigations at the normal and at the pathologically changed eye background the conclusion can be pulled -that glaucomatous papilla-change, like leakage by Na-fluorescein, can be substantially better proven than with a simple investigation or with series photographs with a angiogram interval of some seconds -that the standardisation of the leakage can limited as ratio the late angiogram for the improvement of the interindividual comparability to a closer time interval and -that the different operational sequence of the dye passage our understanding of the in-vivo- pathology and physiology of the papilla in substantial points to enrich and new sources of information open. Since fluorescein cannot leave the capillars with existing blood retina barrier, no or only very small fluorescein leakage within the range of the optic nerve head and the excavation is at healthy pro gangs. The digital evaluation of angiogramsof fluorescein angiography confirms the leakage within the range the papilla with glaucoma patients. The vascular increased leakage of the optic nerve head for fluorescein with glaucoma can be rated as indication of an early capillar damage in the sense of a endothelial dysfunction with increased permeability.
