Funktionelle und histologische Auswirkungen von Mesh-Implantaten im Tiermodell

Abstract

dc:description

Only the use of biomaterials for incisional hernia repair is able to reduce the recurrence rates markedly. Disadvantages are foreign-body-reaction, infections, adhesions, local wound complications like seromas and restriction of mobility by the rigid "shell". Three different types of mesh materials are compared in a rat experiment: a heavy-weight monofilament polypropylene mesh (Marlex), a light-weight multifilament polyester mesh (Mersilene) and a light-weight multifilament polypropylene mesh with Vicryl (Vypro). The materials are implanted as an inlay in rats for 3, 7, 14, 21 and 90 days. The deformation of the abdominal wall following intraabdominal pressure of 0-70 mmHg (0-9,81 kPa) is documented by 3D-Photogrammetry. The histological differences are shown especially for the amount of connective tissue and inflammatory cells. The meshes with reduced amounts of material lead to no restriction of the abdominal wall configuration yet have uncompromised stability. It might be possible to reduce the rate of local wound complications by the use of these meshes.
