Mikrofazies, Sedimentationsgeschehen und paläogeographische Entwicklung im Verlauf des oberen Viséums im Untergrund der Niederrheinischen Bucht und des Campine-Beckens
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe upper Visean (V3) and lower Namurian of the boreholes Schwalmtal 1001 at Viersen (Germany) and Geverik-1 at Geverik (The Netherlands) were the subjects of microfacies analysis and stratigraphic, sedimentologic and petrologic examination. The examined core material of the Schwalmtal 1001 borehole has a V3b to lower Namurian age (foraminifer subzones Cf6ß-Cf7), the material of the Geverik-1 borehole has a V3a to lower Namurian age (foraminifer subzones Cf6a-Cf7). A reconstruction of the geological, sedimentological and paleogeographic developments in the underground of the Niederrheinische Bucht and Campine Basin during the upper Visean was made by the comparison of these boreholes with others situated in the Niederrheinische Bucht, Campine Basin, at the southern margin of the Brabant Massiv and with outcrops in the western part of the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge. The Schwalmtal 1001 and Geverik-1 boreholes show both development tendencies from shallow marine to deeper marine environments with turbidity currents and a abandoned sponge fauna as result of the deepening of the subvariscan foredeep. Block faulting at the northern and eastern margin of the Brabant Massiv and the different distances to the Rhenish basin caused local facies and thickness variations. In the western part the return to shallow marin environments starts earlier than in the eastern part of the examined area.
