'Parametrierung elektronystagmographischer Befunde am Beispiel der thermischen Labyrinthreizung'
Abstract
dc:descriptionAlthough attempted by several authors quantitative analysis of nystagmographical findings is not possible, yet. By using modern multivariate statistical methods like logistic regression analysis there is a better chance for successful data analysis today. In the present study 407 patients and 40 healthy volnteers serving as control group were examined by a bithermal, bilateral stimulation of the labyrinth during a 14 month period. Amplitude, slow phase velocity, frequency and directional preponderance were analyzed statistically for all four examinations. A detailed descriptive analysis of all measured results is given. No classical normal values for caloric nystagmus parameters are possible to form. By using logistic regression analysis a differentiation between pathological and healthy findings and different disease groups is possible. Using this method nystagmus amplitude (AMP) was find to be the stronges discriminating factor. Therefore assessment of nystagmographical findings using velocity of slow nystagmus phase (SPV) only is insufficient. There was no age dependence of these findings. Results of left side irrigation differ statistical significantly from right irrigation results. Also a difference between cold and hot irrigation results could be shown. By using an expanded data base an expert system will be implemented in the future.
