For this purpose 4 of the mandible premolars (P2 and P3) were extracted from each of 2 foxhounds. 20 weeks later, each dog received 6 implants. After a subsequent healing-period of 12 weeks, the mesial fixtures were charged versus each other for a duration of 22 weeks with continuous force in the amount of 2 N. The distal implants served as the control group. The clinical evaluation showed, except for the loss of one control-implant, no sign of dislocation or loosening of any fixture. The histological analysis revealed in all test implants as compared to the control implants the following differences: broader corticle bone, wider periimplantary bone coat (mainly neck-region and basal), denser spongiosa (specially pressure side). It became clear that a reinforced bone remodelling, mainly on the pressure side, and reinforced lamellar bone apposition, specially on the tension side, were the results of the orthodontic application of force to the implants. The processes just described turned out to be much less significant with respect to the control implants.
