Adaptiver Videotransport in Mobilfunknetzen
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis thesis focuses on interactive video communication in mobile communication networks. It describes a system, which allows adherence of delay deadlines for video transport over wireless links. The system consists out of a packet scheduler and a 2 level admission controller. The proposed system allows preventing from delay violation by deploying application specific adaptation procedures that adapt a certain data stream in case of a predicted deadline violation. Although the admission control procedures already improve data loss due to congestion, there still remains a considerable packet loss caused by bit errors occurring on the wireless transmission medium. In order to improve the video quality, the thesis proposes a new error control mechanism for video transport that can be deployed on an end-to-end basis. It is as well possible to integrate this new error control scheme within network nodes, decreasing correction delays and thus improving the video quality. The gain in terms of video quality and bandwidth usage with respect to existing error control schemes is analysed in detail by means of a prototype implementation and an analytical model. The results show that the new error correction scheme significantly improves the video quality by reducing the overall bandwidth usage.
