Risikoverhalten Jugendlicher im Kreis Heinsberg : eine detaillierte Auswertung der Jugendbefragung 2006

Abstract

dc:description

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this analysis is to give a detailled overview of the risk-behaviour of young adolescents in the region of Heinsberg. Furthermore it is intended to point out a existing necessity of prevention and if possible, to give concrete proposals for prevention programs.EVALUATION: The analysis is based on the data of a youth-survey, which was carried out in the year 2006 in Heinsberg. 5984 girls and boys participated. They were at the age of 12-18 and visited the 8th or 10th grade of a secondary school (Gymnasium, Realschule, Gesamtschule, Hauptschule, Förderschule ). The used questionnaire is based on the „Health-behaviour-in-school“-study of the WHO. The statistical evaluation was done with SAS 9.1. Risk behaviour is analysed in 10 key areas of adolescent health. The following 10 risk classes are evaluated: alcohol-, drug and tobacco consumption, unprotected sexual intercourse, gambling, crime, violence, breakfast-frequency, dental care and physical activity. A newly developed point based system shows whether the adolescents more frequently show an isolated or a multiple (>2 areas) risk behaviour. Furthermore it is analysed whether risk behaviour is a general problem or concentrated in a small risk-collective. In addition the existance of determined combinations of certain risk classes is investigated. All mentioned factors are tedted for their correlation with the sociodemographic parameters gender, school-grade and the visited school-type.RESULT: Prevention work is needed in all 10 examined risk areas. More than one third of all pupils endanger their health in the areas alcohol, breakfast and crime. Round about one third shows risk behaviour in terms of tobacco and violence, 25% in the area of dental-care. The other risk areas have less revalence (drugs:16%, gambling:11%). The overall rate of pupils who have unprotected sexual intercourses is 10%, whereas the percentage of all sexually active pupils indicated higher with 35%. Those who visit a “Gymnasium” even accumulate to 39%. Apart from the area tobacco, significant gender differences are visible for all examined risk areas. In comparison to the girls, -boys more engage in risk behaviour related to alcohol, drugs, violence, crime, dental care and gambling. On the contrary girls more frequently than boys show risk behaviour in the areas breakfast, physical activity and unprotected sex. It is not only possible to compare the risk behaviour of boys an girls, but also to identify main areas of risk behaviour within each gender. Boys are especially endangered in the areas of crime, violence, alcohol and breakfast (>1/3 of all boys) whereas girls show a high risk in the areas breakfast, alcohol and smoking (>1/3 of all girls). Except for the areas dental care, violence and gambling a significant increase of risk behaviour from the 8th to 10th grade is visible in all risk areas. The prevalences of the risk behaviour concerning violence and dental care are constant, whereas the rate of gambling decreases. The evaluation cleary shows, that there is a great variety in pupilsrisk behaviour, depending on which type of secondary school they visit. Not only the intensity of risk behaviour in each area, but also the main areas of riskbehaviour differ in each schooltype. 83% of the adolescents show risk behaviour in at least one area, 61% show multiple risk-behaviours. Determined combinations of risk classes, for example according to deliquency, consumption or lifestyle cannot be identified.CONCLUSION: It becomes apparent that a realization of universal prevention in classical risk areas without taking into account sociodemographic factors, is not indicated. Based on this evaluation the local realization of effective prevention programs that consider differences in the risk behaviour due to gender, age, school grade and school types is possible. The prevention programmes´ effectiveness and effici-ency should be reevaluated within a follow on youth survey.
