Osteometrische Typisierung der Scapula mit Hilfe von EDV-gestützten Verfahren

dc:descriptionIn this anthropological work, 500 macerated scapulae from 250 body donors of the collection in the Institute for Anatomy, RWTH Aachen, Germany were osteometrically measured (measuring section, angle and weight) under the guidelines of Knussmann. An up-to-date data record of statistical substantiated significance was compiled from the results of the measured data. The need and interest in such measurements derive out of the various possible uses in medicine as well as in the field of forensic medicine also however in anthropology. The aim of this study was to typify the scapulae on the basis of the measured data results and classify the different scapula forms. The newly compiled data of the scapula is at a glance incomprehensible, therefore the data was evaluated by means of the descriptive statistics, as well as mathematical screening procedures (discrimination analysis, neural network, cluster analysis). The various methods of analysis have a specific focus point and their own target result respectively. In order to gain a whole overview of the morphological composition of the scapula, the results of the different methods have to be combined with each other. By means of this multi-purpose approach the examined data reciprocally aver and evaluate the methods of analysis. It is managed to find an unknown type pattern for the scapula, which characterizes a manifoldness of the scapula form. The examined scapulae point towards a great bilateral symmetry as well as an explicit sexual dimorphism.
