Emotionale und autonome Reagibilität bei Kindern mit extraversiven Störungen

The topic of this thesis is the examination of emotional reactions in boys with different kinds of extraversive disorders. With regard to our knowledge in disturbed emotionality of adult delinquents with a diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder it is researched if children with a high risk of later delinquent behaviour show abnormal physiological reactions to emotional stimuli. We examined 118 boys aged 8 – 13 years who met the criteria for one of the three following disorders: Conduct disorder and Attention-Deficit-hyperactivity-disorder with or without a diagnosis of conduct disorder. Additionally, 43 healthy boys took part in the study as a control group. The style of emotional reactivity was examined by an affect-inducing experiment, in which the parameters heart rate, electrodermal activity and the amplitude of the startle reflex were measured during the presentation of pictures with different kinds of emotional characters. Subjects with conduct disorder (with and without adhd) showed reduced electrodermal reactions to all categories of emotional stimuli compared to the controls. All group comparisons reached significance except for the comparison between controls and the conduct disorder-group in reaction to aversive pictures. These two clinical groups showed a reduced electrodermal reactivity to emotional stimuli, similarly to adult delinquents with an antisocial personality disorder. The results of the study lead to the conclusion of a disturbed proceeding of emotional stimuli in children with a diagnosis of conduct disorder (with and without comorbid adhd), but not in children with adhd only. The results support the hypothesis that the bad social prognosis of children with adhd is caused by the high percentage of children with additional conduct disorder in this population, not by adhd per se.
