Selektives Laserschmelzen zur generativen Herstellung von Bauteilen aus hochfester Oxidkeramik

Abstract

dc:description

An additive manufacturing technique based on selective laser melting (SLM) for zirconia-alumina ceramic is presented. SLM is a powder bed based layer manufacturing technique that allows for rapid manufacturing of complex shaped objects directly from CAD data. By completely melting a purely ceramic zirconia-alumina powder mixture using a laser beam, objects of almost 100% density and a flexural strength of more than 500 MPa were manufactured. In order to avoid crack formation, the ceramic is preheated to a temperature above 1600°C during the build-up process. For preheating, the respective area of the powder bed is irradiated using a CO2 laser. The best results were achieved using a material composition of 41.5 wt% zirconia and 58.5 wt% alumina (eutectic mixture). Manufactured objects have a fine-grained two-phase microstructure consisting of tetragonal zirconia and alpha-alumina.
