Informationen über Krankenhäuser im Internet : Evaluation des Web-Frontends einer Objektdatenbank

During the last years, the world wide web has become a common instrument for information seeking. Among lots of things, it also offers information about health care, disease patterns and hospitals. But so far the information options about hospitals are very limited. The patient can read the quality report of a hospital as a pdf or seek for hospitals by specific criteria. Up to now many website are not very user-friendly or well arranged. Therefore the ISG research group of the RWTH Aachen developed the prototype of a webbased information system about hospitals, which provides the most important informations of some german hospitals. In contrast to lots of other information systems, this one should offer the information in a structered and clear way and should allow the comfortable comparison between several hospitals. The Prototype of the information system is based on an object-oriented database. The database can be accessed by different webfrontends. The paper will focus on an webfrontend named CAMESE, which presents the information in the database. To ensure, that CAMESE fulfills the requirements of the user, it is necessary, to evaluate its usability. The evaluation concept was designed in an two-staged way. The first step was the exploration of the users interests and wishes concerning the world wide web, hospitals and other programs like CAMESE. Secondly the evaluation of the webfrontend was performed in a laboratory. The evaluation concept was based on qualitative research methods, such as semi-structered interviews to explore the users requirements and a group discussion following the evaluation in the laboratory. The result of the evaluation was a list of requirements, which was directly included in the reengineering of CAMESE as well as in the requirements analysis of the whole information system. The product was the prototype of an information system about hospitals named klinikscout.
