Klinische Bewertung von Kronen und Brücken aus Zirkoniumdioxid-Keramik (Typ Lava) nach 21 Monaten Beobachtungsdauer
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe target of current prospective clinical study was to proof the applicability of a new Y-TZP intensified zirconium dioxide –high performance ceramics(LAVA®, 3M Espe) as scaffolding for crowns and bridges in front and side dental area. Patients with poor mouth hygiene as well as difficult disorders and periodontitis were excluded from this study. Lava restorations from 3M Espe were integrated by 31 patients at the Prosthodontics Department of the University Hospital of Aachen from April 2004 until April 2006 from a total of 91 (62 crowns and 29 bridges). The LAVA restoration was carried out by experienced dentists who followed a previously arranged procedure. The parameters for follow up checks were Silness and Löe Plaque Index and Gingival Index, depth probe, Mühlenmann ´s Papilla Bleeding Index, vitality, edge quality, caries incidence or pain, surface consistence, abrasions, antagonists, occlusions, esthetical appraisals. A dual hardening cement (RelyX UniCem®, 3M Espe) was used for the anchorage. Until now (27.07.2007) 61 crown and 22 bridge restorations have been inspected. 21 months were allocated as an observation period, there were no breakdowns registered in the crown group or in the bridge group, insignificant cracks or material spallings were observed. The study showed that LAVA restorations for high demanding esthetical triple or quadruple element crowns in the front or side dental basically suit. Any other statements about the clinical long term material properties in-vivo are necessarily a subject of further studies based on this one.
