Kurzzeitergebnisse nach operativem Aortenklappenersatz : echokardiographischer Vergleich der hämodynamischen Eigenschaften der St. Jude Medical óEpicƒ und der Carpentier-Edwards óPerimount 2900ƒ Aortenklappenprothese

This study shows differences in the hemodynamical performance of the Carpentier-Edwards-Perimount (CEP) 2900 Herzklappenprothese and the St.-Jude-Medical (SJM) Epic aortic valve prothesis. The Carpentier-Edwards-valve shows a better hemodynamical performance as compared to the St.-Jude-Medical (SJM) Epic aortic valve prothesis. The mean pressure gradient of the CEP valve is lower (SJM: 14,80 ± 6,4 mmHg, CEP: 11,15 ± 4,18 mmHg; p = 0,004), and the absolute(AVA) and the indexed valve opening area(iEOA) are larger (AVA: CEP: 1,42 ± 0,44 cm², SJM: 1,11 ± 0,42 cm²; p = 0,004; iE-OA: CEP: 0,77 ± 0,19 cm²/m², SJM: 0,64 ± 0,25 cm²/m²; p = 0,019). The studydesign (retrospective) and the number of patients included (81) are limitations of the study. Further studies are needed, but the Carpentier Edwards Prothesis seems to have hemodynamical advantages.
