Modeling of suspension crystallization processes with complex particle characterization

This book presents and assesses modeling concepts for predictive crystallization modeling. The focus is on the influence of a proper representation of the crystal geometry and its implications on modeling methodologies. The shape of crystals is not only relevant to the properties of the final product but also affects process behavior. The model-based investigation of shape-dependent behavior has been hindered due to lack of computational power and deficiencies of available modeling concepts. It is shown that the complex characterization of particles and its use in process modeling is an emerging field with a large potential for fundamental improvements in model predictiveness.
