  1. Optimizing Communication for Massively Parallel Processing

In this thesis, we motivate the need for hardware collectives, as processor based collectives can be delayed by intermediate that processors busy with computation. We show the performance gains of a next generation network with hardware collectives, through synthetic benchmarks.

  2. Direct numerical simulations of separated and separated-reattaching flows on massively parallel processing computers

… and separated flows have been performed on massively parallel processing computers. Two basic geometrical configurations have been studied: the separated-reattaching flow past a normal flat plate with an attached downstream splitter plate and the separated flow past a flat plate held normal …

  3. A subspace optimizing data parallel complier

… large amounts of memory and computational power. Massively parallel processing hardware and data parallel programming techniques are increasingly used to meet these requirements. A new approach to data parallel compilation, the Subspace compilation model, is introduced. This model is based on the …

  4. VLSI implementation of a massively parallel wavelet based zerotree coder for the intelligent pixel array

… have been made available through the use of massively parallel processing arrays such as the Intelligent Pixel Processing Array. The Intelligent Pixel Processing array is a novel concept that integrates a parallel image capture mechanism, a parallel processing component and a parallel display …

  5. Large eddy simulations of bluff-body wakes on parallel computers

… these calculations have been performed on massively parallel processing computers. The governing equations are approximated by a finite-volume discretization. Several alternate interpolation schemes, including a third-order (QUICK), a fifth-order, and a seventh-order upwinding-biased …

  6. Al/Al2O3 microchannel plasma chemical reactor for ozone synthesis

… is fabricated from aluminum foil by chemical processing and mechanical ablation with photolithographic steps. Channels with 3 cm in length and 250 μm in width at the aperture of the channel produce spatially-uniform glow discharges in O2 or dry air feedstock gases at a pressures of 1 …

  8. Structural Design Using Cellular Automata

Traditional parallel methods for structural design do not scale well. This thesis discusses the application of massively scalable cellular automata (CA) techniques to structural design. There are two sets of CA rules, one used to propagate stresses and strains, and one to perform design analysis. …
