Dietary manipulation causes childhood obesity-like characteristics in pigs
… fat deposition, and induced hyperglycemia, hypoinsulinemia, and low-density lipoprotein hypercholesterolemia; however, a 6 wk dietary intervention partially recovered a normal physiology. These data suggest pre-pubertal pigs fed HED are a viable animal model for studying childhood obesity.

Clinical and pathological characterization of a novel transgenic animal model of diabetes mellitus expressing a dominant negative glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor (GIPR dn)
… and females showed severe hyperglycemia and hypoinsulinemia (p<0.05). In male transgenic animals, the fasted body weight was found to be lower than in age-matched male control mice. The daily food and water intake and the 24-hour urine volume were significantly higher in all transgenic …

The endoplasmic reticulum chaperone ERdj4 is required for survival, glucose metabolism and B cell development
… mice were glucose intolerant, resulting from hypoinsulinemia rather than insulin resistance. Pancreatic β-cells exhibited increased ER stress, including ER dilation and upregulation of the UPR. Proinsulin accumulated in the ER of β-cells from ERdj4 gene trap mice consistent with our previous …

Altered Expression of Metabolic Proteins Contributes to Neuropathological Disease
… clinical studies suggest that both hyper- and hypoinsulinemia are associated with an increased risk for developing AD. Indeed, insulin signaling is altered in post-mortem brain tissue from AD patients and insulin and treatments known to enhance insulin signaling, can improve cognitive function. …
