Fusion-Product Transport in Axisymmetric Tokamaks: Losses and Thermalization
High-energy fusion-product losses from an axisymmetric tokamak plasma are studied. Prompt-escape loss fluxes (i.e. prior to slowing down) are calculated including the non-separable dependence of flux as a function of poloidal angle and local angle-of-incidence at the first wall. The flux is …

A Study of Fusion Product Effects in Field-Reversed Mirrors
The effect of fusion products (fps) on Field-Reversed Mirror (FRM) reactor concepts has been evaluated through the development of two new computer models. The first code (MCFRM) treats fps as test particles in a fixed background plasma, which is represented as a fluid. MCFRM includes a Monte Carlo …

Laser-driven implosion characterization by the analysis of charged-fusion-product energy spectra
Energy spectra of charged-fusion products escaping laser-imploded deuterium-tritium filled glass microballoon targets were measured with a time-of-flight (TOF) spectrometer. The TOF spectrometer was carefully designed, constructed and calibrated to simultaneously measure alpha-particles and protons.

Fusion-Product Energy Loss in Inertial Confinement Fusion Plasmas With Applications to Target Burns
Inertial confinement fusion has been proposed as a competitor to magnetic fusion in the drive towards energy production, but lags behind partly because of the limited knowledge of high-density plasmas. One area of uncertainty is the energy-loss rate of fusion products. This is due in part to the …

Using fusion-product spectroscopy to study inertial fusion implosions, stopping power, and astrophysical nucleosynthesis at OMEGA and the NIF
By measuring energetic charged-particle products from fusion reactions occurring in plasmas, nuclear diagnostics can be used to study the properties of the burning plasma, as a probe of the plasma, or of the fundamental fusion reaction physics. In this thesis, fusion product spectroscopy is used to …

Using fusion-product spectroscopy to diagnose inertial confinement fusion implosions and study stopping power on OMEGA, the NIF, and Z
… related projects that use the spectroscopy of fusion products to diagnose areal densities in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) implosions or study stopping power to better understand the areal density requirements of said implosions. The first project at the Z Facilty regards spectroscopy of …

Isothermal model of ICF burn with finite alpha range treatment
… deuterium tritium burn in inertial confinement fusion capsules is developed. The model, called the Isothermal Rarefaction Model, is zero dimensional (represented as ordinary differential equations) and treats disassembly in the isothermal limit. Two substantive theoretical developments are …

Cluster Structure for Mirkovic-Vilonen Cycles and Polytopes
… and Kamnitzer, we present a way to calculate the fusion product of MV cycles in type A through a generalization of the Mirkovic-Vybornov isomorphism. Finally, we finish with examining the A3 example and show directly that the cluster variables in this case are in the MV basis.

Characterization of the deuteron beam current in a linear accelerator for nuclear-diagnostic calibrations
In Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) research, passive detection systems are often required in several applications for observing fusion-product spectra from an ICF-capsule implosion. These detection devices can be calibrated by using fusion products produced in a linear accelerator as the …

Evolution of the distribution of high energy nuclei and induced collective modes in plasmas
Recent experiments in plasmas undergoing fusion have shown evidence of novel processes which are correlated with the onset of fusion reactions. In view of such evidence and observed effects of the injection of high energy neutral beams in laboratory plasmas, as well as the existence of …
