Design and development of an adaptive external bone fracture fixation system
External fixation is a surgical treatment primarily utilised for long bone fracture stabilisation. External fixation, through either pin or wire insertion, is done by constraining bone fragments and providing support to the injury via external scaffolding built across the fracture., but it can also …

Analysis and design of an adjustable bone plate for mandibular fracture fixation
… and testing of a bone plate for mandibular fracture fixation. Conventional bone plates are commonly used to set fractures of the mandible in a surgical setting. If proper alignment between the two bone segments is not achieved, then a malocclusion can result; this condition often causes …

3- Dimensional analysis of true fracture plane for the proper fixation on lateral humeral condyle fracture in children
… analysis in pediatric lateral humeral condyle fracture. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 100 lateral condyle fractures and the 3D-CT results of 31 pediatric patients were collected from 2003 to 2007. Radiographic classification was done. The angle formed by long axis of humerus and line between proximal …

True Anterior Hip Approach by Anatomical dissection
… it to two clinical situations, femoral head fracture and septic hip arthritis. Result: Usually, there were three terminal branches to rectus femoris from the femoral nerve. The entry point of the first branch was at the proximal 17.5 ? 31.4% portion of the rectus femoris. The second and the …

Surface modification of traditional and bioresorbable metallic implant materials for improved biocompatibility
… restenosis. Metallic pins and screws for fracture fixation can corrode and fail, cause loss of bone mass, and contribute to inflammation and pain at the implant site, requiring reintervention. Corrodible metallic implants have the potential to prevent many of these complications by …

Mechanical Comparison of a Type II External Skeletal Fixator and Locking Compression Plate in a Fracture Gap Model
… mediolateral, and craniocaudal bending in a fracture gap model. The hypothesis was that the Type II ESF would demonstrate comparable stiffness to the LCP. A bone simulant consisting of short fiber reinforced epoxy cylinders and a 40 mm fracture gap was used. The LCP construct consisted of a …

Intramedullary nailing of open tibia and femur fractures through the supra & infrapatellar approach. Is septic arthritis a real concern?
… risk increases notably in cases involving open fractures, as all associated wounds are deemed contaminated. Consequently, the potential introduction of infection into the knee joint consistently remains a concern for the surgeon performing these procedures. Methods: All instances of open …

The influence of nanotopographical structures on osteoblast adhesion formation and the functional response of mesenchymal stem cell populations
… in orthopaedic surgery and play a key role in fracture fixation and in areas of orthopaedic implant design. Initial uncertainty regarding the adequacy of polymeric materials to withstand functional stresses obliged clinicians to implement these biomaterials in non-load-bearing applications such …

Development and evaluation of anti-biofouling nano-composite coatings
… and implants, including catheters and bone fracture fixation pins etc. has a severe impact on human health and health care costs. An approach to reduce biofouling or infection rate is the application of a range of different coatings to the surfaces of equipment. So far the most promising …

Virtual Reality Simulation of Hip Surgery
… required for two surgical procedures; namely hip fracture fixation and pinningof slipped femoral capital epiphyses. The simulator runs on the computers found within the publichospital as it does not require expensive hardware such as haptic (force feedback) devices. Resultsfrom the simulator mimic …

Evaluation and design of an adapted endobutton fixation system to be used in conjunction with suture and endobutton techniques for the treatment of coronoid process fractures
… a fundamental role in the joint's stability. Fractures of the coronoid, typically resulting from high-energy impact, can disrupt this stability and compromise the elbow joint posing a significant challenge to the Orthopaedic surgeon. 3D imaging and fracture mapping are becoming the standard …

In vitro evaluation of equine bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stromal cells to combat orthopedic biofilm infections
Infections of fracture fixation implants and synovial structures are a primary cause of complications, increased treatment costs, and mortality in people and horses. Treatment failure is often due to biofilms that are communities of bacteria that are adhered to a surface or to each other and are …

Optimization of drill geometry for orthopaedic surgery
The fixation of fractures represents the great compromise between biological principles and engineering principles (i). Although a fracture may be very soundly and solidly fixed according to engineering principles, bony union will fail if this violates the biological principles of fracture healing. …

Design Optimization and in-vitro Verification of a Bone-Retentive Device to Repair Comminuted Radial Head Fractures
Introduction: Radial head fractures are common, accounting for approximately 30% of all elbow fractures. Mason type III fractures involve comminuted fractures of the radial head, with two or more articular fragments. There is conflict in the literature regarding optimal surgical treatment of these …

Easily Applicable Fixation Method of Open Alveolar Bone Fractures in the Emergency Department
