Comparison of double-layered(ComVi) stents with polyurethane covered stents in palliative treatment of unresectable malignant gastroduodenal obstruction

Ballistic resistance of multi-layered steel shields
In this thesis, the ballistic resistance of multi-layered steel shields against projectile impact at the sub-ordnance velocity is evaluated using finite element simulations. Eight types of projectiles of different weight and nose shapes are considered, while the multi-layered shields studied are …

Polarization-independent Liquid Crystal Devices
… homeotropic LC gels, thin polymer film separated double-layered structure, and double-layered LC gels. In the low voltage regime, both PDLC and PSCT have a strong light scattering. However, as the voltage exceeds a certain level, the phase modulation is scattering-free and is independent of …

Synthesis and characterization of cobalt-containing perovskite-type oxides
… M = Fe, Mn, Cr, Ni; the materials adopted single layered, double-layered and simple perovskite-type structures. The materials La2 xSrxCo0.5M0.5O4 (M = Fe, Cr) have shown enhanced stability under reducing conditions (10% H2/N2, up to 1000 ºC) with the formation of oxygen deficient compounds, while …

Abnormal Grain Growth of Tungsten Carbide in Small Amount of Cobalt: Mechanism and Application
… INJECTION MOLDING WAS APPLIED TO SYNTHESIZE DOUBLE LAYERED COMPONENTS WITH GRADED STRUCTURE. A HIGHER DENSITY OF ABNORMAL GRAINS BUT WITH SMALLER ASPECT RATIO WERE FOUND IN PIM SAMPLES. A GRADED STRUCTURE IN TERMS OF DENSITY OF ABNORMAL GRAINS WAS FORMED, ACCOUNTING FOR THE GRADED HARDNESS, BE

Structure and Dynamics of Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline and Solid Phases of Sodium Alkanoates (Nmr)
… and the carboxylate groups are arranged in a double-layered square array. The drop in the ('23)Na T(,1) at the clearing point in all salts is discussed. In a preliminary ('23)Na NMR study of sodium stearate, the sodium ion apparently experiences an effectively isotropic environment in the neat …

Some Excursions Into Saturn's Faint Rings
Saturn's E ring: Saturn's tenuous E ring has a double-banded vertical structure, with the density of particles depleted in the equatorial plane of the rings near Enceladus' orbit. We have conducted numerical simulations, supported by orderof-magnitude analytical calculations, to investigate how …

The influence of coulomb potential fluctuation on c-axis tunneling in cuprates
… resistivity along c-axis direction in cuprates, layered high-temperature superconducting materials as a function of temperature. A point-to-point tunneling model is built to describe the tunneling between two CuO2 planes including the in-plane Coulomb interaction. With a general assumption that …

Induction of the retinal pigment epithelium of the chicken embryonic eye
… invagination of the optic cup gives rise to a double layered neuroepithelium, part of which differentiates into the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). The molecular mechanisms which control differentiation of the RPE are not known. The present study was undertaken to determine 1) when induction …

A fabrication stress model for axisymmetric filament wound composite structures
… axisymmetric finite element formulation and a double-layered composite element to model the mechanical behavior of the composite material in any cure state. An incremental finite element formulation was used to model the winding and mandrel removal stages. A thermo-mechanical formulation was …

Nanoscale Carbon Architectures for Electrode Applications
… properties when assembled into electrochemical double-layered capacitors (EDLCs), or supercapacitors. A microwave atmospheric plasma torch was used to produce graphene and diverse graphitic and amorphous carbon nanomaterials. Direct high-temperature conversion under an argon plasma atmosphere of …

Revealing Molecular Adversaries of Human Health Using Advanced Imaging Technology
… methodologies in single particle EM. Rotavirus double layered particles (DLPs) are large macromolecular complexes that display icosahedral symmetry. Previous studies have led to a high resolution structure of transcriptionally inactive rotavirus frozen in time. However, to more fully understand …

Layered Double Hydroxides as Anion- and Cation-Exchanging Materials
Layered double hydroxides (LDH) have been principally known as anion-exchanging, clay-like materials for several decades, and continues to be the main driving force for current and future research. The chemical interactions of LDH, with transition metallocyanides, have been a popular topic of …
