Cholinergic Regulation of the Mammalian Circadian System: Phase Shifting in Vivo and in Vitro in Wildtype and M(1) Knockout Mice Induced by Cholinergic Agonists
These experiments demonstrate that ACh regulates the circadian clock via at least two different pathways. One induces phase advances throughout the night and is mediated via the M1AChR. The other causes a biphasic, light-like response and is not mediated via the M1AChR.
