SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MODEL AQUATIC PARTICULATES FOR USE IN SORPTION STUDIES
… hydrous oxide-clay particulates had a limited adsorption capacity for organic matter.

Attempts to measure surface area through adsorption of cationic dyes were unsuccessful. Dye adsorption on illite varied with the square root of the ionic strength of the dye solution. This trend was …

Synthesis and Characterisation of Porous Mixed-Ligand Metal-Organic Frameworks for Sorption Studies
… (MOFs) have been identified as promising physisorption candidates because of their unique structures. MOFs are a class of crystalline materials consisting of coordinate bonds between metal ions and organic ligands. The permanent porosity of MOFs enables them to be applied as gas storage and, …

Crystal engineering and sorption studies of cyclotriveratrylene and C-methylcalix[4]resorcinarene solvates
… of these types of assemblies to form by vapour sorption. A hexameric assembly structure crystallised from 1-butanol (9) has already been published in the literature. However, SCXRD studies for this work revealed additional structural information not apparent in the literature structure. Another …

Crystal engineering of 2-periodic Ni- and Co-based, isoreticular, mixed ligand metal-organic frameworks for sorption studies
… in many applications, for example, enhancing gas sorption capacities. MOFs consisting of mixed ligands, i.e., more than one type of ligand, open the possibility of varying pore directional features in three dimensions independently, thus allowing for further tailoring of properties. This thesis …

The geochemistry of radioactive waste disposal
… site located in a clay deposit. From initial sorption studies on smectite minerals, increased Kd with decreasing initial cation concentration was observed, and three sorption mechanisms were identified. The observation of anion dependent sorption was related to the existence of a mechanism in …

Schicksal von 4-Nonylphenol und Bisphenol A im System Boden/Klärschlamm bei der landwirtschaftlichen Klärschlammverwertung
… as an agricultural fertilizier were studied. Adsorption and degradation experiments were performed with [14C]-radiolabeled compounds. Sorption of 353-nonylphenol to sandy loam soil as well as to Na-bentonite and peat humic acids was high, desorption low. Sorption and desorption of nonylphenol …

The use of organic materials as amendments in the remediation of soils contaminated by lead, copper and zinc
… of metal immobilization. This was done by sorption studies, incubation experiments in contaminated media, and greenhouse pot experiments. Batch sorption studies were conducted to evaluate the ability of bone meal, composts, peat, coir and wood bark to sorb Pb, Cu and Zn. Single sorption …

Equilibrium studies of ion sorption on zeolitized tuff from Rainier Mesa, Nye County, Nevada
… subsurface environment. Consequently, parametric studies were performed to investigate the equilibrium sorption of Pb(II), Sr(II), CrO{dollar}\sb4\sp{2-}{dollar} and SeO{dollar}\sb3\sp{2-}{dollar} ions on zeolitized tuff from Rainier Mesa, Nevada, and on clinoptilolite from Jordan Valley, Oregon. …

Sorption of organic compounds on oil shale materials and sorption of selected chemicals on a Western soil
The sorption capacity of a raw shale (Anvil Points), three spent shales, (Antrim, Oxy 6, and Run 16), and a western soil for three organic compounds (2-Hydroxynaphthalene, 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinoline, and 2,3,5-Trimethylphenol) was evaluated by batch and column sorption studies. In addition, the …

The impact of abiotic and biogenic mn oxide coatings on contaminant mobility, bioavailability, and attenuation
… of metals in soils and sediments. While sorption to discrete Mn oxides has been investigated in a number of studies, coatings have not received as much attention. Abiotic nanocrystalline (hydrous manganese oxide (HMO)) and crystalline Mn oxides (bimessite and pyrolusite) coated on …

Application of carbonated calcium silicate materials in metal sorption processes
… were carbonated, and examined by nitrogen adsorption, XRD, NMR, SEM, TG-DTA analytical techniques. The carbonated materials were evaluated in batch sorption studies with the solutions of cadmium, lead, nickel, cobalt, zinc, strontium and cesium. The findings of the structural examination …

The effects of biochar on trace element and nutrient solubility in the presence of low-molecular-weight organic acids
… nutrients with and without LMWOAs. Then, batch studies tested if biochar would reduce the LMWOA-driven solubilisation of trace elements and nutrients in soil. Later, rice husk biochar and LMWOA-activated rice husk biochar were incorporated in greenhouse investigations to study the growth …
