Thermoelectric properties of silicon-germanium alloys
… an enhancement in ZT for n-type and p-type SiGe alloys mostly due to the reduction in the thermal conductivity. Such a reduction is due to both the alloying effect and increased phonon interface scattering at grain boundaries.

Single crystal growth and characterization of silicon germanium alloys
Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering, 1999.

Reactions of thin film bilayers of nickel on silicon-germanium alloys
Solid state reactions between 1000A thick Nickel films and 4000A thick amorphous Si$\sb{\rm 1-x}$Ge$\sb{\rm x}$ films, deposited with the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) technique, are examined with the novel use of two in-situ analytical techniques: An in-situ 4-point probe resistance measurement, …

Soft x-ray near edge spectroscopy of cuprous oxide and silicon-germanium alloys
… obtained for CU20 and for SiGe1-x semiconductor alloys, xas a function of composition x, using the methods of partial electron yield and thin film absorption. The shapes of the near edge features provide a unique fingerprint of the local crystal structure (symmetries, coordinations, bond lengths, …

Reaction Paths for Self-Organized Surface Roughening of Silicon-Germanium Alloys During Hydride Gas-Source Molecular Beam Epitaxy
Si0.7Ge0.3(001) layers were grown at Ts = 450°C, where strain-induced roughening is completely quenched, to thicknesses greater than the critical value for misfit dislocation formation (tc ≃ 100 nm) to probe the effect of thetaH on cross-hatch formation. At t slightly larger than tc, …

Thermal conductivity from first-principles in bulk, disordered, and nanostructured materials
… We apply the approach to isotopically pure silicon and germanium as well as materials with disorder such as silicon-germanium alloys and show how this leads to excellent agreement between computed and experimentally measured values. The approach is also applied to predict thermal transport …

Nanostructures and alloys : multiple scattering and nonlinearities in phonon transport
… scattering theory have been combined to model alloys and systems with embedded nanostructures. The simplest of such effective field theories, the Virtual Crystal approximation, fails to capture short-length scale information due to the inherent coarse graining of the approximation. …

Theoretical study on the band structure of Bi1̳-x̳Sbx̳ thin films
… for example lead telluride thin films and silicon-germanium alloys thin films. The model can also be modified to study one-dimensional narrow-gap systems such as Bi1-xSbx nanowires. The electronic band structure of Bi1-xSbx thin films for different growth orientations are studied. The …
