… Gap is that large-batch SGD sticks at sharp minima. The dissertation proposes a stochastic smoothing (SmoothOut) to escape sharp minima. The dissertation will show that TernGrad overcomes Communication Bottleneck and SmoothOut helps to close the Generalization Gap.</p>
