ZigZag decoding : combating hidden terminals in wireless networks
… attains the same throughput as if the colliding packets were a priori scheduled in separate time slots. We build a prototype of ZigZag in GNU Radio. In a testbed of 14 USRP nodes, ZigZag reduces the average packet loss rate at hidden terminals from 82.3% to about 0.7%.

Qos In Cognitive Packet Networks: Adaptive Routing, Flow And Congestion Control
… This dissertation explores QoS in Cognitive Packet Networks (CPN) by using adaptive routing, flow and congestion control. We present a detailed description and analysis of our proposed routing algorithms based on single and multiple QoS constraints. An online estimation of packet loss rate …

Performance Evaluation of TCP Multihoming for IPV6 Anycast Networks and Proxy Placement
… The network model used in our investigation integrates three main components: the new one-to-any Anycast communication paradigm that facilitates server replication, the next generation Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) that offers larger address space for packet switched networks, and the …

Optimal Link Utilization and Enhanced Quality of Service Using Dynamic Bandwidth Reservation for Pre-recorded Video
… Internet. The bursty nature of Variable-Bit-Rate (VBR) compressed video (such as MPEG) poses some important issues for video delivery over high-speed networks due to its significant bit rate variation over multiple time scales. However, sufficient quality of service (QoS) mechanisms must be …

Effective Scheduling Algorithms for Cross-Interference Mitigation in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
… Interference (CTI) between Wi-Fi and Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (LR-WPAN), because of asymmetric transmission power, incompatible Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) and different timing parameters. Plenty of studies have shown that WiFi always has a higher priority to access the …

Network Traffic Control Based on Modern Control Techniques: Fuzzy Logic and Network Utility Maximization
… are deployed with intelligent or optimal data rate controllers to tackle the traffic mass. The first one is called the IntelRate (Intelligent Rate) controller using the fuzzy logic theory. Unlike other explicit traffic control protocols that have to estimate network parameters (e.g., link …

Random Linear Network Coding Enabled Routing Protocol in UAV Swarm Networks: Development, Emulation, and Optimization
… so problems such as high latency, high packet loss rate, and even loss of connection arise when UAVs are far apart. These problems dramatically reduce the transmission rate and data integrity for traditional routing protocols based on path discovery. This thesis focuses on developing, …

Error Behaviour In Optical Networks
… many future optical LANs will be required to operate with limited optical power budgets for a variety of reasons, including increased system complexity and link speed, low cost components and minimal increases in transmit power. Some developers will wish to run links with reduced power budget …

Harmonizing Actuation and Data Collection in Low-power and Lossy Networks: From Standard Compliance to Rethinking the Stack
… the Internet of Things (IoT)promising to integrate countless communicating devices into objects around us at home, in the streets, and on industrial sites. These embedded devices are often very small in size, autonomously-powered, and have restricted computational and communicational …

Learning to Predict End-to-End Network Performance
… time (RTT), available bandwidth (ABW) and packet loss rate (PLR). While much progress has been made in network measurement, a main challenge in the acquisition of network performance on large-scale networks is the quadratical growth of the measurement overheads with respect to the number of …

Adaptive Resource Allocation Algorithms For Data And Energy Integrated Networks Supporting Internet of Things
… proposes a self-management Data and Energy Integrated Network (DEIN) system, which designs a stable and controllable ambient RF resource to charge the battery-less IoT wireless devices. It embraces an adaptive energy management mechanism for automatically maintaining the energy level of the …

An open vendor agnostic fog computing framework for mission critical and data dense applications
… commute, shop and play. Current deployment strategies of these applications emphasize mandatory cloud connectivity. However, this is not feasible in many real-world situations particularly where data dense and mission critical applications with stringent requirements are concerned. Cloud …

Capacity Enhancement Approaches for Long Term Evolution networks: Capacity Enhancement-Inspired Self-Organized Networking to Enhance Capacity and Fairness of Traffic in Long Term Evolution Networks by Utilising Dynamic Mobile Base-Stations
… the LTE network from overloading thus reducing packet loss, delay and improves fair load sharing. In order to trail the best (least) path, a bio-inspired optimization algorithm based on swarm-particle optimization is proposed over the dynamic BTS network. It uses the ant-colony optimization …

TCP performance enhancement in wireless networks via adaptive congestion control and active queue management
… of TCP in wireless networks is the higher packet loss rate as compared to that in traditional wired networks. Packet loss type differentiation has been the focus of many proposed TCP performance enhancement schemes. Studies conduced by this dissertation research suggest that besides the …
