Molecular adsorption at solid/liquid interfaces using self-assembled monolayer films
… The second part of this thesis discusses various oligo(ethylene glycol)-terminated alkyltrichlorosilanes [C13Si(CH2)11(OCH2CHnX; X = -OCH 3 or -O 2CCH 3, n= 2- 4] that can form robust films on glass and metal oxide surfaces and control the adsorption of proteins. The adsorption of the …

Computer simulation of water near model organic surfaces : interfacial behavior and hydration forces
… part, we simulated the interface of water and oligo(ethylene glycol) terminated alkanethiol SAMs. We found that hydration force is not responsible for the resistance of surfaces to protein adsorption. Hydroxyl ions are responsible for long-ranged repulsion between proteins and the surface.

Synthesis and characterization of liquid crystalline polyrotaxanes based on poly(azomethine)s
… and 60-crown-20, were synthesized from oligo(ethylene glycol)s and oligo(ethylene glycol) ditosylates with 22-40% yield. The high temperature synthetic method was developed so that the percentage yield of large crown and the small crowns in the same reaction could be controlled. A new …

Engineering Biosurfaces for Cell Studies
… first study, protein and cell resistance of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG)-terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were studied as a function of the chain length of the OEG unit. In general, PEG with high molecular weight is better than short OEG SAMs in reducing …

Raft Polymerization Of Ph-Responsive, Diblock Copolymers For Nucleic Acid Delivery Vehicles
… composed of a stabilizing hydrophilic block of oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEMGA) and a cationic, endosomolytic block of 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA), 2-(diethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DEAEMA), or 2-(diisopropylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DPAEMA). The …

Molecular and Biofunctional Modification of Conformal POEGMA Bottlebrush Coatings and Applications Toward In Vitro Diagnostics
… polymer bottlebrush films derived from poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (POEGMA) for IVD applications. POEGMA coatings are grown from planar surfaces by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP), and then undergo biofunctional modification with …
-
Novel functionalised biodegradable polymeric micro- and nano-structures for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications
… phosphorylcholine) (PMPC) and three poly(oligo(ethylene glycol)methacrylate)) (POEGMA) homopolymers were prepared using RAFT polymerisation. Two of the POEGMA homopolymers were prepared using two different functional groups, disulphide and n-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS), to allow subsequent …

Towards greener stationary phases : thermoresponsive and carbonaceous chromatographic supports
… poly (2-(2-methoxy ethoxy)ethyl methacrylate-co- oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (P(MEO2MA-co-OEGMA)) is studied due to its biocompatibility and the ability to vary its cloud points in water. When a layer of temperature responsive polymer was attached to a single continuous porous piece of …

ENHANCING THE BONDING OF SYNTHETIC POLYMERS MIMICKING MARINE BIOADHESIVES
… to incorporate varying percentages of oligo(ethylene glycol) into the backbone of a DOPA- based polymers has resulted in a new family of adhesives with tunable mechanical properties. Using biomimetic chemistry, we were able to systematically modify the composition of an adhesive …

Cell Wall/Surface Proteome of Candida albicans: its Application in Rapid Identification of Yeast Species by Mass Signature and Characterization by in vitro and in vivo Chemical Labelings
… of the bulky fluorous tag moiety and the long oligo ethylene glycol (OEG) spacer after fluorous affinity purification. Upon collision induced decomposition, the labeled peptide ion yielded a characteristic fragment that could be retrieved from the residual portion of fluorous affinity tag, and …

Development of functional hydrogels for sensor applications
… copolymerization strategy has been set up with oligo ethylene glycol methacrylates. This allows to tune the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the polymers in aqueous media. The molar masses are variable thanks to the excurse taken in polymerization in ionic liquids thus stretching …

Synthesis and Characterization of Highly Functional Substituted Stilbene Copolymers and Semi-crystalline Poly(aryl ether sulfone)s
… and the flexible coil block consists of poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate). The rod-coil block copolymers form polyion complex (PIC) aggregates even when the polyampholyte blocks are charge imbalanced. The aggregates did not dissociate upon the addition of high concentrations of NaCl …

BIOFUNCTIONALIZATION ON HYDROGEN-TERMINATED SILICON(111) SURFACES
… We demonstrated monolayers presenting oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG) prepared using this apparatus remained resistant to model protein fibrinogen after 56 days in phosphate buffer saline (PBS). In order to incorporate new moieties to our platform, we optimized the design of …

New inverse hydogel opals as protein responsive sensors
… The comonomers were selected from the family of oligo(ethylene glycol)methacrylates. The monomer solution was injected into a polymerisation mould, which contained the colloidal crystals as a template. The space in-between the template particles was filled with the monomer solution and the …

Responsive polymers for optical sensing applications
… and poly(meth)acrylates bearing oligo(ethylene glycol) side chains, revealed that the responsive polymers differed widely in their ability to perform a particular sensing function. In order to address questions regarding the impact of the chemical structure of the host polymer on …
