  2. Cytological and Biochemical Studies of Male Sterility in Two Species of Drosophila

… blotting to determine the biochemical basis for sterility. One protein, KRP60, was consistently reduced in sterile males. This protein may play a role in the normal function of the sperm in early development.

  4. Reorganization of Mitochondrial Genomes of Cms-S Maize Associated With Reversion to Fertility and Changes in Nuclear Background (S1 - S2 Plasmids, Cytochrome Oxidase I and Ii, Apocytochrome B)

The cms-S type of cytoplasmic male sterility in maize is characterized by the presence of linear mitochondrial plasmid-like DNAs, S1 and S2. Sequences homologous to S1 and S2 are also found in the main mitochondrial genomes of cms-S and normal fertile lines of corn.

  5. ASSOCIATION MAPPING OF GENE REGIONS FOR DROUGHT TOLERANCE AND AGRONOMIC TRAITS IN SORGHUM

… generations of random mating, aided by genetic male sterility (GMS) system. This was followed by seven cycles of self-pollination through single seed descent (SSD) to form 1000 MAGIC lines. Two hundred of these were genotyped using a high throughput genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) platform.

  6. Molecular Aspects of Nuclear Genome Involvement in S Cytoplasmic Male-Sterile Maize

… the S-type of cytoplasmically inherited male sterility in maize (cms-S) at three levels: (1) nuclear fertility restoring genes; (2) the degree of instability, i.e., the frequency of reversion to fertility; and (3) the proportion of revertants which are due to either nuclear or …

  7. Agronomic performance of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] hybrids

<p>Male sterility systems identified in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], combined with insect-mediated cross-pollination have been shown to produce large quantities of hybrid seed that can be useful for the identification of heterotic patterns in soybean. This procedure was used in this study to …

  8. Multigene Metabolic Engineering Via The Chloroplast Genome

… The transgenic lines were normal except for the male sterile phenotype, lacking pollen. Scanning electron microscopy revealed a collapsed morphology of the pollen grains. Transgenic lines followed an accelerated anther developmental pattern, affecting their development and maturation, resulting …

  11. The Small GTPase Rheb Is Required for Spermatogenesis but not Oogenesis

… a critical component for mTORC1 activation, in male and female gametogenesis. The function of Rheb in development and the nervous system has been extensively studied, but little was known about its role in the germline. I have exploited genetic approaches in the mouse to study the role of Rheb …

  13. Genetic and Biochemical Analyses of the Necessity for Caspase Activation by the CED4-Domain Proteins, APAF-1 and DARK

… Apaf-1 is in a locus frequently deleted in Male Germ Cell Tumors (GCT's). Though not homozygously inactivated in these tumors, Apaf-1 mediated caspase activation is impaired in GCT cell lines and may be a frequent event in other cancer types. Analysis of human genomic DNA facilitated the …
