An X Ray Study of the Structure of Potassium(1-X)-Rubidium(x)-Carbon(y)
The mixed layered compounds K$\sb{\rm 1-x}$Rb$\sb{\rm x}$C$\sb8$ and K$\sb{\rm 1-x}$Rb$\sb{\rm x}$C$\sb{24}$ represent quasi two-dimensional alloys interleaved by graphite hexagonal planes. We report extensive x-ray scattering investigations of the structural aspects of these compounds.

Advancing the computational exploration for thermoelectric materials
… materials, such as SnSe, Bi2Te3, and Mg3Sb2, are layered materials in which the intrinsic transport would be inherently anisotropic in single crystals, warranting an investigation into anisotropic transport for single-crystal thermoelectric applications. Before thorough investigations into …

Superstructures of Magnetic Materials
… carbide SmNiC2 and the perovskite-related layered compounds La5(Ti0.80Fe0.20)5O17 and La6(Ti0.67Fe0.33)6O20. Studies were performed with single-crystal X-ray diffraction and subsequently refinement and analysis of the crystal structures. Measurements of SmNiC2 were performed within the …

An x-ray study of the structure of K1-xRbxCy
The mixed layered compounds K1-xRbxC8 and K1-xRbxC24 represent quasi two-dimensional alloys interleaved by graphite hexagonal planes. We report extensive x-ray scattering investigations of the structural aspects of these compounds. In stage 1 K1-xRbxC8, we find that the interlayer separation …

High Pressure Studies of Superconductivity
… studied. Metallic hydrogen and hydrogen-rich compounds are believed to be good candidates for high temperature superconductivity. High pressure optical studies of benzene: C<strong>6</strong>H<strong>6</strong>) have been performed to 2 Mbar to search for pressure-induced metallization. …

Printable graphene sensing systems for drug and alcohol detection
… sheets obtained through exfoliation of layered compounds. Despite this, none of these materials have opened the door to the design of more sensitive and reliable chemical sensors in the way that graphene has. Various properties of graphene such as high surface area, conductivity, …

Electronic structure and energetics of Fe-based superconductors: Effects of chemical and magnetic disorder in (Ba-X)(Fe-Y)2As2
… copper-oxide superconductors (Cu-SCs), they are layered compounds in proximity to an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state. The Fe-SC systems are amenable to controlled chemical doping/alloying, exhibiting coexistence of AFM and SC, as well as structural transformations versus temperature and pressure …
