Near field behavior of reacting free jets
Numerical simulations of a nonreacting circular jet and both nonreacting and reacting elliptical jets have been completed. Linear stability analysis was used to force the jets at their most amplified frequency. Circular jet simulations showed low levels of coherent structure formation and little …

Theoretical Studies of High Energy Transport of Electrons and Holes in Gallium-Arsenide, Indium-Phosphide, Indium-Arsenide, and Gallium-Antimonide (Semiconductors, Monte Carlo, Impact Ionization)
In this thesis, the high field behavior of both electrons and holes is studied using a Monte Carlo calculation including a complete band structure. The Monte Carlo method is particularly useful since it can be applied to both steady state and transient problems.

One Dimensional Computer Analysis of Simultaneous Consolidation and Creep of Clay
… stress observed in the laboratory and in the field. Validation of the computer program by simulating standard oedometer tests is described and the applicability of the program in predicting field behavior is examined. The oedometer test simulations indicate good agreement with stress-strain …

The entrainment and mixing of a round buoyant turbulent jet in cross-flow
… of an experimental investigation of the near-field behavior and physics of the round buoyant turbulent jet in crossflow. In particular, the study centers on the physics associated with entrainment and mixing phenomena of the jet with the goal of better understanding the trends of trajectory …

Efficient Broadband Electromagnetic Modeling of the Power Distribution Network in High -Speed, Mixed -Signal Integrated Circuits
… model is used to model correctly the field behavior at irregular discontinuities such as splits, holes, vias, and pins in the power-ground plane structure. The resulting discrete, locally three-dimensional electromagnetic model, is used in conjunction with a passive reduced-order …

X-ray and neutron scattering studies of the Rb₂MnF₄ and Cu₁âõxMgx̳GeO₃ in an external magnetic field
… 5/2. When this material is placed in a magnetic field on an extrapolation of the spin-flop phase boundary into the paramagnetic phase, Heisenberg critical behavior can be accessed to a much longer correlation length than had previously been achieved for a high-spin system. Comparison of our …

Experimental determination of strain rates in stretched laminar diffusion flames
… were used to compute the associated strain rate fields. The results were used to qualitatively assess current CFDF modeling schemes, and to expand the knowledge of the fluid velocity field behavior within these flames. The data show behavior qualitatively consistent with most models and …

Using lithium compounds as an admixture in new concrete and as a post-treatment for existing concrete affected by alkali-silica reaction
… addition, exposure blocks were cast to simulate field behavior. After an extensive study conducted jointly at the University of Texas, CANMET (Ottawa), and the University of New Brunswick, evidence of major differences between the amounts of lithium nitrate suggested by each test method became …

Dynamic actuation properties of Ni-Mn-Ga ferromagnetic shape memory alloys
Dynamic magnetic-field-induced strain actuation of up to 3% with a frequency bandwidth of least 500 Hz in Ni48.5Mn29.5Ga21 ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FMSAs) is achieved. Hardware was designed and constructed to measure frequency bandwidth, magnetic-field-induced strain, stress and …

Light scattering from tantalum diselenide
… with damped Lorentzians does not show a mean field behavior for the oscillator frequency. This indicates the presence of critical fluctuations or mode coupling. A depolarized central peak is observed in close-in Raman scattering both with and without an iodine vapor cell filter. The intensity …
