  1. Persistence of Bacteroides ovatus under simulated sunlight irradiation

The persistence of Bacteroides ovatus, a human-associated anaerobic fecal contamination indicator bacteria species, was evaluated under simulated sunlight exposure and conditions similar to surface water and seawater. By combining propidium monoazide (PMA) treatment and quantitative polymerase …

  2. Biochemical and genetic analysis of the Bacteroides ovatus galactomannan utilization system

I constructed the E. coli-Bacteroides shuttle vector, pVAL-1. This was the first in a series of new cloning vehicles that made it easier to clone Bacteroides DNA in E. coli and mobilize it from E. coli to Bacteroides species.

  3. Enzymes Involved in the Utilization of the Galactomannan, Guar Gum, by Bacteroides Ovatus

When Bacteroides ovatus is grown on guar gum, a galactomannan, it produces an (alpha)-galactosidase (I) which is different from the (alpha)-galactosidase (II) it produces when it is grown on galactose, melibiose, raffinose or stachyose. I have purified both of these enzymes to apparent homogeneity. …
