An investigation of the factors underlying the choice of treatment modalities used by students in the Victoria University Osteopathic clinic and practicing osteopaths

Osteopathy is a system of manual health care, with a fundamental philosophy that centres on the individual patient. There is, however, a paucity of research regarding the osteopath's perception of the integration of factors which govern the choice of treatment techniques. The results of this study indicated surprisingly little difference between experienced practicing osteopaths and osteopathic students in terms of both the factors considered when choosing treatment techniques and the frequency of use of treatment modalities. This suggests that experience is not a major factor in determining treatment choice. This minor thesis was written by a post-graduate student as part of the requirements of the Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) program.
