Effect of in situ stresses on the stress analysis in soils by the finite element method

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The effect of in situ stresses on the stresses and displacements in soils was investigated by the finite element method. The soil was considered as a nonlinear elastic media having a hyperbolic stress strain relationship. Isotropic and cross anisotropic media were considered in the analysis. Also the effect of in situ stresses on the plastic analysis of a perfectly plastic media was investigated. Details of the programs developed for the analysis and the results of the problems studied are included.
