Conditions for the Entrenchement of Terrorism in the North and South Caucasus. Terrorism, as a political phenomenon, is a very complex conception. It has been in the centre of attention since the Cold War, but especially in recent years terrorism has managed to spread the fear of it to a very large audience across the globe. Despite the fact that probably the vast majority of the world‘s population is aware of terrorism as a concept, there are still many speculation on what actually terrorism is, what motives guides the terrorists to operate and what exactly are their goals. Having in mind that according to Global Terrorism Index in 2014, 93 countries out of 162 have at least once experienced terrorism, future perspective seems to be quite clear – terrorism is spreading like a virus and sooner or later, every single country of the world will experience at least some impact of terrorism. North and South Caucasus regions were chosen as an objects of this comparative analysis. The main goal of this work is to examine both regions through the perspective of terrorism and find out what are the factors of dynamics of the region: while South Caucasus is experiencing stability and region‘s development towards the West, North Caucasus is being under radical islamists control. The main pressumptions of analysis is that political terror, economic growth and youth unemployment contributes to the current terrorism situation in both North and South Caucasus. The results of the research showed that the factors mentioned above were not significant. Only in Russia‘s North Caucasus the correlation between political terror and terrorism, and youth unemployment and terrorism could be seen, however, South Caucasus‘ low terrorism index did not correlate with any of the factors.
