Bachelor thesis titled ‘History Reflections of Grand Duchy of Lithuania in Contemporary Lithuanian and Belarusian Schools' analyzed the information provided in Belarusian and Lithuanian history textbooks about the LGD in five selected points: origins and causes of LGD formation; 'image' of Dukes of LGD; foreign policy of LGD; official language and script of LGD; golden age of LGD. It should be noted that each present state, which was a part of LGD, wants to own at least part of the legacy of the LGD, which are historical facts supporting the history of their country. History of LGD both in Lithuania and Belarus takes an important place, as it forms collective historic memory of nation. Historical collective memory is formed from the young age of the person through education and youth policy, as well as cultural dimension. The objective of this bachelor's thesis is comparison of the information provided in Belarusian and Lithuanian history textbooks and educational media about the LGD and determine what collective memory, associated with the LGD, is formed in consciousness of pupils. Five objectives were given to reach this goal: to discuss the influence of the historical narrative to memory formation; to define the relation between history and politics; to discuss the influence of education in a process of collective memory formation of young people; to compare education and youth policies ongoing in Lithuania and Belarus, to identify the key differences; to examine and the information provided in Belarusian and Lithuanian history textbooks and educational media about the LGD. The analysis of LGD historical aspects in Belarusian and Lithuanian school history textbooks and educational measures revealed that Belarus and Lithuania form a different collective memory associated with LGD. Countries emphasize different aspects of the history of the LGD, glorify different Dukes, highlight different events and periods. In the future, due to the different stories and collective memories created in the states, various disputes and tension can occur, which can develop into a number of conflicts between the Lithuanian and Belarusian historians, politicians and even the states.
