The final Bachelor’s thesis examines the involvement of citizens in decision-making in rural area of the region. The first (theoretical) part of the final thesis describes the concept of the involvement of citizens in decision-making, the essence of decision-making, meaning and forms. The concept and significance of local communities in local self-government and the role of neighborhoods in decision-making are analyzed as well. According to the analysis of scientific sources, the involvement of the population is very important in the state and local governance, as active involvement of citizens in decision-making processes is an important feature of modern society, which helps to attract as many people as possible to express their opinion on important issues, make suggestions for solving rural problems, strengthen security, increase regional prosperity and development opportunities. The second part of the final work presents the methodology of the study of the involvement of citizens in decision-making in a rural area (the case of the community of Drąsučiai village of Šiauliai district), which describes the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Both, theoretical and empirical methods, are applied in the work: scientific literature analysis, legal analysis, oral questioning (questionnaire), systematization, grouping, comparison and generalization. The second part presents the results of the empirical study. After conducting a survey of Drąsučiai village residents, the Drąsučiai rural community leader and Kuršėnai rural subdistrict representatives, a survey of opinion polls (interviews) has revealed that the population is involved in decision-making, it is also interested in policy-making at the local level. Mostly, the community is active in project activities. However, there is a lack of involvement of the inhabitants of Drąsučiai village in decision-making: especially, in initiatives to attract people into decision-making processes from the community leader, the active participation of the population themselves in the decision-making process, and the community of the village of Drąsučiai and residents in solving local problems. Finally, conclusions and recommendations, based on the literature analysis and the results of the research, are presented.
