Abstract

dc:description

The final thesis of the Bachelor's degree focuses on young people who are one of the socially excluded groups. Young people have less experience than adults, which makes it harder for them to integrate into the labour market, living conditions often depend on their parents' financial situation, also low levels of education, disabilities and other factors make it harder for young people to adapt to society's constant changes. Social exclusion is a topical and often analysed issue, but there is a lack of research in Lithuania that analyses the social exclusion of young people, so the aim of this thesis is to analyze the factors that lead to the social exclusion of young people and to provide recommendations for reducing social exclusion in Lithuania. Part of the scientific literature analyses the concept of social exclusion, its risk factors. By applying statistical data analysis and comparing Lithuania with the average of the European Union, it looks at the situation of poverty and social exclusion among young people. Delves deeper into legal and strategic documents that aimed to reducing poverty and social exclusion, with a focus on young people. Good practice programmes, both in Lithuania and in other countries, are highlighted, pointing out that Lithuania could benefit from the example of other countries. Following a literature review and based on the Income and Living Conditions Survey data (2022), an analysis of secondary data was carried out. This analysis allowed to identify the factors influencing the formation of social exclusion among young people aged 18-29 in Lithuania. The study chose to look at social exclusion through one of the components of the poverty or social exclusion risk indicator - material and social deprivation. The factors analyzed in this part of the study are: education, health, economic activity of the individual, financial situation of the household, household size, gender and place of residence. The analysis of secondary data revealed that the experience of material and social deprivation among young people in Lithuania is a rare phenomenon, so a negative binomial regression was performed in order to obtain more precise data. The regression revealed that the risk of social exclusion among young people is influenced by education, health, gender, and household financial situation, while no statistical significance was found for other factors.  .
