Patyčios mokyklose: mokytojų požiūris ir prevencinis vaidmuo Lietuvoje /

Bullying is a phenomenon when repeated abusive acts are deliberately intended to psychologically or physically humiliate, hurt or insult another person (Lietuvos Respublikos švietimo įstatymas 1991; Olweus cit. pg. Buzaitytė Kašalynienė et al. 2021, p. 204; Craig, Pepler cit. pg. Inchley et al. 2023). Bullying manifests itself in a variety of ways: in person or in cyberspace, as well as through direct or indirect actions. Bullying can have negative consequences for those who experience it. In order to avoid bullying in schools, it is essential to work on its prevention, which also requires contribution of teachers, who spend a lot of time with pupils. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate teachers‘ attitudes towards bullying and their role in it and bullying prevention processes in Lithuania. The first and second parts of the thesis analyse the scientific literature and previous research by Lithuanian and foreign researchers on the definition, extent and harm of bullying. It also examines ongoing bullying prevention in schools and what forms of it is required based on a theoretical approach. The third part of this paper presents an analysis of the qualitative research conducted by the author of this bachelor‘s thesis in order to find out what teachers‘ attitudes towards bullying are, and how they perceive and implement their roles in bullying prevention processes. To summarise the empirical findings, teachers have a strong negative view on bullying and tend to stop specific incidents, but are less likely to believe in the importance of their role in wider prevention processes.
