A democratic state cannot function without active citizens. Meanwhile, there are visible changes in democratic states that young people vote more and more passively. On the other hand, studies show that this group actively participates in protest politics. Such trends are opposite to the behaviour of older generations. Seeing these differences, the purpose of this study is formed - to compare the civic activity of different generations of Lithuania, as well as assessing the effect of age and period. The bachelor's thesis reviews the theories that explain the factors influencing civic activism and aims to check how these theories apply to the case of Lithuania. In the empirical part, based on the European Values Study, the aim is to determine the civic activity of different generations and compare it statistically. The data show that there are significant differences between Lithuanian generations - the younger generations are more passive than the older ones in protest politics. The influence of the life cycle is only partially confirmed and is only visible in the three oldest age groups. The strongest factor explaining the differences between protest politics is the political context of the time. The activities of "Sajūdis" involved the majority of society in protest politics. Then, followed a time of social and economic transformations, which was accompanied by an overall decline in the civic activity of the population. Lack of civic habits also contributed to the decline. The historical context of Lithuania strongly influenced the participation of citizens in civil society. The trends of changes in civic activity related to the change of generations observed by scientists in Western Europe and the USA are only partially confirmed in Lithuania so far.
