The aim of research work: To evaluate the associations between postpartum maternal depression and infants' motor and cognitive development Tasks of work: 1. To analyse the factors influencing postpartum maternal depression. 2. Evaluate the association between postpartum maternal depression and infants' motor development. 3. Evaluate the association between postpartum maternal depression and infants' cognitive development. Methods: Literature review was fulfilled while using the science databases: PubMed, EBSCO, ClinicalKey, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, Wiley online library, Cambridge Journals of Cambridge Cores. Criteria for inclusion of sources: • Scientific literature examining the associations between postpartum maternal depression and infants' motor or cognitive development; • Participants: women who experienced symptoms of postpartum depression and their infants; • Publications in English or Lithuanian languages; • Publications printed in 2016 or later. Criteria for exclusion of sources: • Studies where infants had concurrent illnesses; • Studies where mothers had concurrent illnesses unrelated to postpartum depression. Conclusions: 1. Based on the analysed studies, it was established that postpartum depression is influenced by biopsychosocial factors such as violence, prenatal depression, dissatisfaction with marriage or partner. The impact of factors such as infant’s gender and family socioeconomic status is difficult to assess due to the small number of studies. 2. The performed analysis revealed the negative impact of postpartum depression on the infant’s motor development in the first year of life. The delay in motor development of infants depends on the severity and duration of mothers' postpartum depression. 3. The performed analysis revealed the negative impact of postpartum depression on infant’s cognitive development and its social environment, especially when postpartum depression was strong and chronic.
