Childhood vaccination on time provides individual and community protection against infectious diseases. In Lithuania, young children are vaccinated according to the preventive vaccination schedule. The decline in the high level of immunization maintained in the country for a long time, due to the increased refusal of parents to vaccinate their children, poses a threat to the country's immunity. Research aim - is to identify the reasons why parents refuse to vaccinate their children according to the vaccination schedule. Research methods: analysis of literature sources and qualitative content analysis. A semi-structured interview was used to survey participants meeting the study criteria. The interviews were conducted remotely. The collected data were transcribed, and induction and deduction were employed for analysis. Research results: eight respondents participated in the study. Parents have a negative view of child vaccination. If the first child experiences a side reaction, parents refuse to continue vaccinating that child and do not vaccinate their other children at all. Various motives influence this choice, but the most common is the fear of adverse reactions after vaccination. The information sources parents rely on when deciding not to vaccinate are not always scientifically verified. Research conclusions: 1. The respondents' opinion on immunoprophylaxis is negative due to the excessive number of vaccines and their composition. 2. Parents with more than one child either vaccinate the first child with all vaccines or refuse only DTaP, MMR, MenB, and RV. If a side reaction occurs, parents refuse to continue vaccinating the child and tend not to start vaccinating other offspring. Other reasons for refusing to vaccinate were also identified. 3. Parents who decide not to vaccinate their child often rely on scientifically unverified sources.
