Pseudoeksfoliacinės glaukomos diagnostikos ir gydymo ypatumai /

Abstract

dc:description

The objective of this thesis is to review and analyze the most recent data on the clinical manifestations and treatment options for pseudoexfoliative glaucoma, and to compare the findings with those from two distinct clinical cases treated at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos. Materials and methods: A search for publications was carried out in the PubMed database using the keywords pseudoexfoliation syndrome, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. In total, 53 sources were reviewed. All articles were published in the past ten years. Descriptive analysis was used to assess the data. Clinical cases of two patients from Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos were selected and analyzed. Results: Pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, caused by the pseudoexfoliation syndrome, is a major public health concern, due to its rapid progression and aggressive course. Detecting and diagnosing the disease in a timely manner is crucial for effective management and treatment. However, the diagnosis of pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, which is based on the clinical examination of the patient, poses several challenges in daily clinical practice. In the initial stage of pseudoexfoliation syndrome, the pathognomonic signs of the disease are subtle and can be easily missed or overlooked. During the course of the disease, as pseudoexfoliative material accumulates in various structures of the anterior chamber of the eye, the main symptoms specific to the syndrome can be observed: a three – zone target image on the front surface of the lens and whitish deposits at the pupillary edge of the iris. The prognosis for pseudoexfoliation glaucoma heavily relies on intensive conservative or interventional treatment. Given its tendency to rapidly develop resistance to treatment, careful and continuous monitoring of the patient's condition throughout the disease's progression is imperative.
